Healthy Diet
Milk and dairy products are an important part of a healthy diet. It is recommended that we consume three portions of dairy per day.
A 200ml glass of milk contains VITAMIN A for eyesight, VITAMIN B12 for red blood cells, CALCIUM for strong teeth and bones, CARBOHYDRATE for energy, MAGNESIUM for muscle function, PHOSPHORUS for release of energy, POTASSIUM for nerve function, PROTEIN for growth and repair, RIBOFLAVIN for healthy skin and ZINC for the immune system.
Milk is a fantastic natural source of calcium which is essential for bone growth and maintaining a healthy skeleton. Children replace their skeleton regularly and the majority of bone formation takes place in the late teenage years so it is essential for these age groups to ensure a good intake of calcium. As we get older, we begin to lose bone, rather than build it, but unnecessary bone loss can be prevented by increasing calcium intake, which can be achieved by drinking more milk.
Teeth also need calcium to grow and stay healthy. Milk is a rich source of calcium, but it also contains proteins for growth and repair and casein which forms a film over the enamel of the tooth and protect it from damage.
High blood pressure occurs when the blood vessels do not allow the blood to flow through easily. This can put an enormous amount of strain on the heart, leading to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. Milk contains potassium, magnesium and calcium, all of which are linked to lowering blood pressure and peptides which lower the systolic and diastolic pressures.
